Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a time of incredible change, and your body is working hard to support two lives at once. Chiropractic care helps your body adapt to those changes in a natural and gentle way by supporting the nervous system, the system that controls and coordinates everything else in your body.
Chiropractors focus on correcting small misalignments in the spine, pelvis and skull. These misalignments, called subluxations, can cause tension in the surrounding muscles and ligaments. They also place stress on the nervous system, which may affect how well your body functions and adapts to pregnancy.
The Webster Technique
One area that is especially important during pregnancy is the sacrum, located at the base of your spine. If the sacrum is misaligned, it can create tension in the pelvic muscles and ligaments, which can limit space inside the uterus. This may prevent the baby from moving into the best position for birth.
The Webster Technique is a gentle chiropractic approach that restores balance to the pelvis, muscles and ligaments. It helps reduce intrauterine constraint and creates more room for the baby to move naturally into an ideal position for birth. It is especially helpful in cases where babies are breech, transverse or posterior, and even in twin pregnancies.
Dr Larry Webster developed this technique to help support healthy pelvic alignment throughout pregnancy. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) recommends regular adjustments using this technique to help create the best possible conditions for a safe, natural birth.
Why Chiropractic Care Matters
Chiropractic care does more than help with comfort during pregnancy. It supports the nervous system, reduces stress and helps the body function at its best. That is why many women choose regular chiropractic care throughout pregnancy, to feel better, move better and give their baby the best start possible.
